29 Mar CBD and Road Trips with your Pet
Taking your pet along on a road trip often sounds like a good idea. Some pets love going for a ride in the car, but most of the time – it’s just a short drive. Longer trips may bring a little stress and anxiety to your pet. In this short guide we’ll help you keep your pet happy and excited to be with you on a road trip with the help of CBD.
Preparing your Pet for the Road
It’s a good idea to create a checklist of items your pet will need for the road just as you’d do for yourself. Your pet will likely have a better time on the road if a couple of your pet’s favorite things go along too. This could be a favorite blanket, shirt or even a couple of toys. Soft toys are best for the road.
Pet road trip checklist:
- Fresh water
- Ample food supply
- Special treats
- Blanket/portable bed
- Doggy car seat (Car safety is important for your pets)
- Pet first aid kit
- CBD oil or treats
This is a simple checklist. But, just as you’d do for yourself, double check it before hitting the road. It could make the trip difficult for your pet if their favorite comfort toy or item is left behind. Leaving things at home that typically make a mess would be ideal as it’s not the best idea to be cleaning up a mess while driving.
If your pet hasn’t been on longer car rides, it’s a good idea to take a couple of practice trips. These should be a little bit longer than the normal ride. Try to drive an hour away and back a few times before your longer road trip.
This will serve as a test to determine your pet’s comfort level while being in the car for a longer period of time. It will also give you time to adjust the road trip schedule to allow for extra breaks if needed. These little breaks can help your pet get a little exercise and relax a bit – if it’s needed.
Taking Along CBD
If you’ve started your pet on a CBD regimen to support healthy responses to stress and anxiety or inflammation and joint pain, don’t leave their CBD behind. Road trips can be a little more stressful on your pet –meaning that a little extra CBD might be needed.
Make sure you discuss the road trip with your vet first to make sure your pet is ready. If your vet is able to speak with you about CBD, make sure to discuss increasing the frequency of their doses if it’s needed.
CBD chews and treats may take longer to start working for your pet, so CBD oil products are also a good idea to have on-hand since they are fast acting options.
For pets, going for a car ride can be exciting. Some may really love riding in the car but it might also make them anxious. For again pets, being in a car may cause their joints to feel a little stiff, so planning an extra stop or two might help them. Take lots of pictures so that you can remember all of the fun you had on the road with your best furry friend.
