29 Aug Chlorophyll and Pet CBD Products
Chlorophyll and pet CBD products have been a topic of discussion. CBD comes from hemp plants and, like all other green plants, contains chlorophyll. Some pet parents wonder if it is safe for their pets to ingest. In this quick guide, we’ll take a look at why most pet CBD products don’t contain chlorophyll.
What is Chlorophyll?
Chlorophyll is really just a pigment produced by plants, including hemp plants that gives them their bright, vibrant green color. Plant cells called chloroplasts are tiny pods where the chlorophyll is held. The cells are found on the inside of hemp plant leaves called mesophyll cells.
Is Chlorophyll Safe for Pets?
Chlorophyll is not harmful to your pets. In fact, in some dog products, chlorophyll is used to help reduce odor and bad breath. It has antifungal, detoxifying, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. This can be good for helping pets clean their systems and remove toxins from their intestines, bones and blood. Removing toxins can help reduce some of the odor that some pets have.
If it has these properties, why is it removed from most pet CBD products? The next section discusses why Pet Health CBD and many other pet CBD manufacturers prefer to leave it out.
Why is Chlorophyll Removed from Pet CBD Products?
Chlorophyll and pet CBD products are just not a great combination for one simple reason – chlorophyll tastes bad. However, if your pet enjoys eating dirt and pieces of the earth, they might like the taste. It’s removed from CBD products for humans, so the same practices are followed when making pet CBD products with most manufacturers.
Although pets don’t know that green colored liquids aren’t exactly appealing to humans, for pet parents – it might just be hard to give your pet a green liquid. And, when CBD is used as a topical on a pet’s skin or fur – it can stain. Chlorophyll is a plant-based pigment that makes a great dye – but you don’t want a green pet running around the neighborhood. Someone might think you’re harming your pet.
Pet Health CBD Products are Chlorophyll-Free
At Pet Health CBD, our pet CBD products are chlorophyll-free. We do recognize that chlorophyll is not harmful to pets, but we don’t want to see green pets running around if the products are used for homemade topical applications. We also realize that some pets might like the earthy flavor, but many pets are picky – just like children, so we keep it simple. Our formulas are made in a way that makes their flavor somewhat easy to disguise in your pet’s food if they don’t want to take the liquid by itself orally.
If you think your pet needs chlorophyll, speak with your vet. There are supplements available. Of course, you can also speak with your vet about adding chlorophyll to their pet CBD products as well – but keep in mind that you’ll only want to make this addition for ingestion and not topical application. Chlorophyll is safe for your dogs, cats and other pets, but as we mentioned, always speak with your vet before giving your pet anything – natural or pharmaceutical.
