13 Jun Clinical Trials on Pet CBD Products Taking Place
Pet CBD products are continuing to become more popular. With that popularity comes many questions regarding the safety and efficacy of CBD for pets. Pet parents want clear answers about pet CBD products, especially after reading so many anecdotal claims and success stories from other pet owners. They want to know – is CBD really safe for our pets, what could it really support in my pet’s body? Clinical trials on pet CBD products are now taking place, with hopes of providing the answers that pet parents need.
Clinical Trial Regarding Pet CBD Products for Joint Immobility
The University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine has a team of researchers that are beginning the first stages of a clinical trial to determine the efficacy of CBD for pet joint immobility. A press release indicates that the CBD products used in this trial will be supplied from a Colorado-based company. For research and data finding purposes, it will be a double blind study.
This clinical trial is expected to be the largest of its kind for cannabinoid therapies for pets.
Inflammation in Dogs
Dogs can suffer from inflammation just as humans do. It can inhibit their mobility, lead to stress and may even lead to symptoms of depression. Anecdotal claims from pet parents say that CBD seems to support an improvement in inflammation. Some pet parents say that CBD has helped their pet become more active, happier and healthier – but science has not been able to confirm nor deny these claims yet.
The clinical trial that is beginning hopes to answer the questions others have had regarding these claims. The only way to obtain real evidence and answers is through science, trials and research.
An excerpt from the press release regarding inflammation in dogs reads, in part, “Dogs known to be suffering from inflammation secondary to osteoarthritis will be studied to determine whether those who receive the Therabis supplement achieve better outcomes than untreated dogs. One group of dogs will receive the formula for a proprietary veterinarian-specific formula Therabis product; a second group will receive Cannabidiol alone which previous studies have shown may have benefit in osteoarthritic dogs; a control group will receive a placebo. Study designers are targeting inclusion of up to 20 dogs in each group. “
Other Pet CBD Products Brands
Even though one particular brand is being highlighted in this study, it does not mean that some of the other pet CBD products brands aren’t of equal quality or better. When products are created for a clinical trial, they have to be formulated a specific way to be approved for the study or trial. Pets have an endocannabinoid system just like humans, these systems essentially work the same way.

Treating animals is a bit different than treating humans, but cannabinoid therapy for dogs shows potential. The CBD industry has to wait for science to get caught up. The industry needs confirmation of what it likely already knows. When looking for quality pet CBD products, research the brand and ask plenty of questions if the information you seek is not available online. Reputable pet CBD companies will have lab test results to show that their products are clean, pure and safe. They will be available to answer your questions and the ingredients in their products will be chosen specifically because they are safe for pets to ingest – like the products we offer here at Pet Health CBD.
