Questions asked by our customers:
How much does my pet take?
When it comes to proper dosages for pets, the dose is dependent on your pet’s exact weight. We have a complete guide to help you with calculating your pet’s proper dose. Please bookmark our Complete CBD Dosage Guide for Pets.
Ideally, pets should receive 2 doses per day. A starting dose is suggested to be 0.05 mg per pound. For a 10 pound pet, as an example, this would be 1/2 mg (0.5 mg) twice daily. A medium dose is 0.125 mg per pound and the maximum dose is 0.25 mg per pound.
Consult your vet prior to starting your pet on CBD. For some pets, smaller, more frequent doses may be more appropriate, but again, this should be discussed with your vet first.
Is there THC in the products?
Our hemp CBD extract is tested to have under 0.3% THC before we formulate our products. That is especially important for pets, as THC does not appear to be beneficial to them at this time.
Can I add tinctures to food or liquid?
Absolutely! Sub-lingual (under the tongue) is best for access to the bloodstream, but mixing with food or treats perfectly fine to do. Keep in mind that when your pet’s dose of CBD is mixed with food it requires digestion which takes longer to get to the bloodstream. The bioavailability (the amount of the CBD that actually becomese available to your pet’s body) is less due to the digestive process. If you are giving your pet the small dose and must put it dry food, see how your pet does on the small dose first. If you believe that the small dose, after digestion, is not working for your pet, discuss increasing to the medium dose with your vet to compensate for the loss of CBD content due to digestion.
Can CBD be used with a particular pharmaceutical drug?
Please consult your veterinarian and primary resources such as PubMed.Gov for the latest research.
What’s difference between MCT and coconut oil?
MCT (medium chain triglyceride) oil used in our products is odorless, colorless, and liquid at room temperature, and is derived from coconut oil. Please consult your veterinarian in case of a coconut allergy.
What are terpenes?
Terpenes are powerful aromatic compounds that are responsible for the flavor and aroma of plants. Terpenes do much more than provide flavor and aroma. They also support other cannabis compounds in producing wanted effects. We call this the entourage effect, and it’s the reason terpenes have become such a critical piece of the cannabis puzzle.
Cannabis contains hundreds of natural chemical compounds that have the ability to directly interact with our bodies and minds. Cannabinoid compounds are relatively unique to the cannabis plant, but other plant-derived chemical compounds such as flavonoids and terpenes also bind to our cells and influence our experiences.
Terpenes have recognized and accepted therapeutic benefit. They are found in things that we eat every day like citrus fruit, herbs and spices. Parsley is a safe herb for pets. Parsley contains the terpenes alpha pinene and myrcene, as an example.
The terpenes chosen by Pet Health CBD are pet-safe.
How are the tinctures different from each other?
We have developed special blends of natural plant terpenes, after years of testing, in order to create the different formulations. Each formula has it’s own terpene percentages and unique terpene profiles. The terpene blends used for each formula are designed to work together based upon their properties. Customer feedback strongly indicates their efficacy.
