27 Jun Pet Safety Tips for 4th of July
All of those loud booms and cracks can be terrifying for your pets. Keep them safe this 4th of July with these pet safety tips, including administering a dose of CBD at just the right time. It can take pets a little longer to recover from stressful situations that make them nervous than humans.
This is one of our favorite pet safety tips because you can entertain your guests and keep pets calm at the same time. Music can help reduce the sound of fireworks, gunfire and other loud noises associated with Independence Day. It’s important to play music that your pet normally responds to or is used to.
You might have to increase the volume just a little bit on these occasions to make sure they can’t hear the loud booms much.
Using CBD Appropriately
We’ve mentioned it a few times, but the dose of CBD for pets is much different than it is for humans. It’s important to know what the right dose of CBD for your pets is. Please keep our CBD Dosage Guide for Pets bookmarked for easy access so that your pets are always getting the right dose.
On occasions where pets may be exposed to more noise, a busier house and hours of booms in the sky – more frequent, small doses might be needed. Have a chat with your vet before 4th of July if you plan to incorporate our Pet Health CBD Anti-Separation Tincture or any of our other Pet Health CBD products to make sure that using several smaller doses is the right path to take.
If your pet takes the tinctures well on their own, it’s okay to administer them orally about 5 to 10 minutes before things get noisy and busy. If you have to give your pet its CBD in food or treats, do so about 30 minutes prior. CBD that is included in food must be digested before the cannabinoid and terpenes enter the bloodstream.
Keep them Part of the Celebration
Another of our favorite pet safety tips for 4th of July is making your pets a part of the festivities. Include them and pay attention to them. If they feel isolated or are ignored, it might make them feel like they’re not wanted there – that’s not okay when there are loud noises occurring on and off all night.
What you can do is make your pet some special treats that they don’t get every day. Include a little CBD in those treats, which could support better reactions to the noise and keeps their bellies satisfied.
Take pictures with your pets, dance with them and make sure they get enough petting and belly scratching.
It’s important to include your pet in the festivities, but also make sure that the doors stay closed. If you do not have a fenced in yard or other means of keeping your pet safely in your home – keeping doors closed will help prevent them from wanting to run away when all of the noise from fireworks begins. Make sure that you post notes on your doors so that your guests also know to keep them clothes.
We hope that these pet safety tips for 4th of July will help keep your pets safe and calm this year. As we mentioned above, make sure to discuss using CBD with your vet first. The happier and more secure your pet feels with all of the noise, fireworks and guests – the better the night will be for them.
