24 Jan Traveling with CBD Oil for Pets
Traveling with CBD oil for pets may be something entirely new for you and the TSA or transport service. You might be a little nervous about taking CBD along on your trip for your pet, but don’t be. The 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp, while CBD oil awaits FDA guidelines, it’s still in a bit of a gray area, but don’t be nervous. We’ll give you some tips here for safely traveling with CBD oil for pets.
Follow Liquid Restrictions Rules
When traveling with CBD oil for pets, follow the guidelines that the airline has set for liquids. Airlines allow 1 quart-size bag with liquids in it. Each bottle cannot exceed 3.4-ounces. This includes your personal liquid items like creams, gels, shampoos, etc.
One bag per passenger is permitted. Keep this bag of liquids in your carryon luggage.
Proof of Purchase when Traveling with CBD Oil for Pets
Here’s the thing about the TSA, they’re not up-to-date on all of the laws yet. Most agents probably aren’t even aware of the 2018 Farm Bill or what it means. So, keep your proof of purchase of the CBD product with you at all times.
Make sure that your proof of purchase indicates that the CBD is derived from hemp and not cannabis. Make sure that you are traveling with CBD oil for pets that is compliant with the farm bill. What this means is that the CBD oil cannot contain more than 0.3% THC.
Be Aware of Laws at your Destination
Even if you are traveling with CBD oil for yourself or your family members, the same rules apply for carrying the liquid with you for your pets. Make sure that your destination does not have specific laws outlawing CBD oil. It is rare for those travelling domestically to have an issue when traveling with CBD oil for pets since the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill, but not all states have adjusted their laws yet.
Type of CBD Oil Product
While CBD oil may be your preferred delivery method for your pets, some may also use capsules. Every manufacturer has different capsules available. Some are smaller doses than others. It is important to know how much CBD your pet should be taking to be able to break these capsules up into a proper dose. It might be easier to travel with capsules, but for smaller pets, it can be difficult to determine the right dose in a capsule.
CBD oil is much easier to travel with since it’s easier to administer to your pet.
Give your Pet CBD before Travelling
Regardless of your method of travel, a dose of CBD prior to getting the trip underway might be a good idea. Travelling is stressful for pets, even if it’s not a long distance. Flying can be terrifying for pets, which is why so many require medication.
When choosing the desired CBD product for your pet, also consider the length of time it takes to start working. Capsules take time to digest, so the onset of effects is slightly delayed. Oils tend to work faster when administered sublingually, but will act the same as capsules when added to food or treats.
When traveling with CBD oil for pets, just stay calm. If the TSA questions you, show your proof of purchase. If the local authorities happen to get called, be polite and show them that the product is derived from hemp and is farm bill compliant. It is important for your pet to have its CBD oil at home and away from home.
